A few weeks back I was reading about foods that are healing to our bodies and I came across celery. I was amazed to read about all celery can do for us. And I bet you did not know that technically celery is an herb and not a vegetable! Interestingly, I use celery a lot in my salads and cooking. I like how it adds texture and variety without overpowering a dish and I like how my body feels when I eat it. Little did I know there are several good reasons why :). I hope you enjoy reading this article and discovering how adding celery into your diet is a real win!
Celery is a major alkaline food. This means it has an extremely high toxin removal rate. It purges the body of acid and poisons and cleanses the liver and bloodstream like nothing else. One of the reasons is because it is high in bioactive sodium and other trace minerals which work systematically with each other to help raise the body’s pH . It is ideal for cleansing and repairing our intestinal lining. The more alkaline our body has, the less chance we have of being afflicted with by disease. Disease thrives off things like mucus and acids.
It is good for heart health. It contains a compound called coumarins, which is known to enhance the activity of white blood cells and support our vascular system. It is rich in vitamin A, magnesium, and iron which all nourish our blood.
Celery may seem bland and boring to some, but it is anything but that. Celery improves kidney function, helps restore adrenals, and can even bring ease to one’s mind and thought patterns. It’s mineral salts feed electrical impulses supporting neuron function. This is key if you suffer from ADHD, brain fog, or memory loss. It can also help lessen your chances of suffering from migraines.
It is one of the most powerful anti-inflammatory foods because it starves bacteria, yeast, mold, fungus and viruses present in the body. And like we mentioned above, it removes and flushes out toxins in our bodies.
And the list goes on! Celery can help heal rheumatism, arthritis, auto-immune illnesses, acidosis, and high blood pressure. Because of the high sodium content I mentioned earlier, it has the ability to dislodge calcium deposits in our joints. So it can help in joint and bone support and repair. It can even help clear up skin problems!
Healing tip: Fresh celery juice is one of the most powerful healing juices you can drink. Just 16 ounces of fresh celery juice a day can transform your digestion and overall health in as little as one week, from what I read. You want to drink the juice on an empty stomach to raise hydrochloric acid levels most efficiently.
A tasty tip: If drinking celery alone is difficult for you, try adding one or two apples to the juice for a bit of sweetness.

Another easy way to get more celery into your diet is to add two to four sticks of it when blending the smoothie of your choice. I am also learning to have fresh celery sticks cut up in the refrigerator to snack on, put on the side of my plate at lunch, or chop up into salads and soups.
I don’t know about you, but I have never been a juicer. I always felt I needed the fiber in plants and so I did not want to juice. But reading about celery juice has had me reconsidering. What a simple way to cleanse and detoxify! I think sometimes we can make things too complicated. For healing to occur I think we need to embrace a balance of the simple and complex. Celery juice is a simple measure – one ingredient! I think many feel adding more to their various juice blends is even better for them. Or they read about complex menu plans or detox programs to try. But, according to what I have read, there is nothing that equals the power of pure celery juice. It is healing and transformational due to it’s nutritional make up.
This simple healing tonic has caught my interest. I want to give it a try and see how I feel. But first I need to buy a juicer!!! What about you? What do you think? If you try it let us know what you think.
To healing our bodies and watching our health soar!
