This past week at my personal training studio in Lakeville I had more than one conversation about people “hitting their targets.”
One of the biggest reasons people struggle to see results is because they don’t hit their targets consistently.
Notice I didn’t say every single time. I said CONSISTENTLY.
The one thing that is consistent is NOT hitting the numbers they need to.
What Numbers Am I Talking About?
At my personal training studio in Lakeville I like to give people tangible numbers to hit.
Let me give you some examples:
- 3 workouts per week
- Burn 400 calories per workout
- Get 10,000 steps per day
- Macronutrients like carbs, protein, and fats as well as calories
These numbers are targets that are needed to be hit continually and consistently to see your goals become reality.
Too often I hear people make excuses or “modify” the targets to suit their needs.
THIS DOESN’T WORK!
Be coachable. Follow the plan. And hit your numbers. It’s that simple!
When people don’t hit the numbers and complain, they have no right to because not hitting your targets equals a lack of focus.
No focus = No results.
As many of you know I posted a before and after picture of myself as I started training for a fitness competition back in December. Now I am 10 days out from that.
People want to know the “secret sauce” I used to get really lean.
The coach I hired drew up a plan for exercise and nutrition. Guess what? There were targets for both. I hit them at least 90% of the time or better. I knew from being a coach there is nothing more annoying than giving people a plan and not seeing them follow through. So I wanted to be a good client.

So if you are frustrated, discouraged or hopeless when it comes to getting in shape, I have 2 questions for you:
- Do you have a well laid out plan with specific targets to hit? You cannot improve what you can’t track.
- If you do, are you hitting those numbers at least 80% of the time or more?
If you are not maybe you need a better plan or some more accountability.
