As a coach I buy what I sell. Meaning I invest in coaching myself.

One of the BEST practices taught to me through the coaching I have invested in is the LOCKDOWN.

It sounds more ominous than it really is.

It's 2-3 days where I isolate myself to focus on two main things.

  1. Review of the past year, and

  2. Create a vision and plan for the upcoming year

Today I'm going to cover the first step in the process.  The REVIEW. The key to a successful REVIEW is not only to reflect on my business but to consider ALL areas of my life that are IMPORTANT to me.

Here are my categories.

  • Business

  • Marriage

  • Physical

  • Mental Development

  • Spiritual Growth

  • Friends

  • Family

  • Recreation And Fun

  • Environment

Basically I look at each area and ask these questions

  1. What went well and what did I accomplish?

  2. What did I plan to do but did not achieve?

  3. How can I improve and grow in each area?

I also do an assessment called "The Wheel of Life." This asks questions and scores areas in my life to gain a sense of where my strengths and weaknesses are.

It's a great Darren Hardy exercise.  I've attached the e-book BEST LIFE EVER to this email so you too can reflect and assess your "wheel."

It's important to keep in mind as you go through this exercise that it's not meant to be a 'beat down.'  The entire lockdown process is designed to celebrate wins, identify weaknesses (and how to fix them) and to gain clarity and vision for the coming year.

Personally, I find this process useful. It helps me to focus on practicing one of my core values - KAIZEN - which is a Japanese word for constant steady improvement.

I believe it's vital to set goals and vision for every area of your life that matters to you. Sometimes we just do that for business or fitness and forget about the others.

They won't just get better on their own. There needs to be a plan in place to make it happen.

I recommend you download the attached e-book and block some time to do your own lockdown this coming week.

I'll be back next week with part two of the lockdown:  Establishing vision and setting goals.

I hope this blesses you to make 2024 truly your BEST year ever.

Dedicated to your success,

Erik Peacock
