Has your body ever given you a warning sign that you ignored?

Kind of like when the check engine light in your car goes off and you procrastinate taking it in until one day the car doesn’t work.


Back in 2001 I ignored my “check engine light” and had a major incident because of it.

I was coaching high school football and I loved everything about it – the kids, the game, the other coaches…

However, as my training clientele grew so did my stress level during football season.

I ran an exhausting schedule trying to train clients, go to practice then come back and train more clients -not to mention all the film study and prep time that goes into coaching.

It was a grind – 7 days a week.

My workouts sucked.

I wasn’t getting much sleep or down time.

I felt anxious all the time.

Then one morning I woke up and started to go downstairs to get ready for work.

I fainted and…down the stairs I went – head first.

I broke my nose, wrenched my back and had given myself a concussion.

It was so bad I was transported to the hospital via ambulance.

I had seen the warning signs ahead of time.  Things weren’t right but I ignored them.

Things like…

  • My low back was going out and spasming
  • My energy was crashing.
  • I was irritable.
  • When I worked out I was getting weaker instead of better.
  • I could feel the tension on me from the stress of my schedule


Needless to say, this was a big wake up call for me. I have learned to listen to my body and slow down.

Nowadays I’ve learned to take stress breaks and not overcommit myself.

If I don’t take care of myself I won’t be able to take care of others
